Does this sound familiar?
You are driving down the highway and you suddenly swerve to try to miss a huge pothole, but you are out of luck. The next time you take your car in for service, the technician tells you that you need a wheel alignment.
But what exactly does that mean – a wheel alignment?
A wheel alignment requires adjusting the angle of the wheels of a vehicle so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. Proper wheel alignment
- reduces tire wear,
- improves fuel economy,
- improves handling, and
- increases driving safety by eliminating steering and tracking problems.
As a rule, you should have your wheels aligned every 10,000 or 15,000 miles or at least once a year.
The indicators that you need a wheel alignment include
- Uneven tire tread wear
- The car pulls or drifts to one side
- The steering wheels does not return easily after a turn
- The steering wheels remains on an angle while you are driving in a straight line
